Other tools for editing Descent missions

Devil is an editor for the Parallax/Interplay computer game Descent 1 and Descent 2 (see the Interplay website and the Parallax website for info about Descent 1&2). Devil will only work with the commercial versions of Descent 1 or Descent 2. The shareware versions are not supported and due to different file formats between the commercial and the shareware versions, Devil won't work with them.

You will find a more complete list of editors for Descent at the Warpcore. I've not added the Descent Mission Builder to this list because you can only buy it and not download it from the net. Anyway here are some tools which I think are really needed to edit Descent missions in addition to Devil. To gain full access to the available Descent data you need editors for the following kind of files:
Extension Description Available programs
MSN/MN2/HOG The MSN/MN2-files specify the order in which to play levels from the HOG-files (MSN for D1/MN2 for D2). The HOG-files are nothing more than a big file containing all files which belong to one mission. There are a lot of mission managers available. Devil has a small one implemented (so that you can play your levels without running in big trouble) but if you want to do edit Descent missions the serious way, you'll have to get a program which is made for this job like the Descent Manager or Yahoma.
RDL/RL2 Level file format from Descent 1/2. Devil is as far as I know the only non-commercial program that is capable of editing all of the level data.
POG The POG-files are available since Descent 2 V1.2 (the original textures are in the PIG-files). You can specify new textures in the POG-files which you can use in your own levels (the original textures are in the PIG-files delivered with Descent which are more or less the same format then the POG-files). Furthermore you can put new music and sounds in POG-files. The only program I know which can handle POG-files is DTX2.
HXM All robot data including the shape of the robots. As far as I know, there is no program available to change the shape of the robots, so if you are searching for a new project to which you can spend your time, this would be a good choice.
